Rhannwch eich storiPoppy and Rhys, two brave Cancer Research Wales supporters from South Wales, completed a skydive on 16 July, 2022, in memory of Poppy’s nan Karen.
Poppy explained, “Cancer is something close to both of our hearts. I personally chose Cancer Research Wales as my nan had cancer and unfortunately passed away. We both thought that we need to raise money so more research can be completed and hopefully one day a cure can be found.”
On the day, both Poppy and Rhys took part in the skydive at Swansea and both found the adrenaline on the day gave them that extra bit of courage for the big jump.
Poppy continued, “We were both very different getting ready to jump! I was a lot more nervous as I am scared of planes! However, Rhys was very chilled and relaxed until he saw me jump out of the plane. We were both very excited to jump and I think the adrenaline kept us going! We both had in our minds that however scared, nervous or worried we were, it would never amount to how people with cancer are feeling.”
“Afterwards we felt ecstatic! I do not think any words can describe how amazing you feel! Everything is going 100mph, quite literally from when you first jump out of the plane, that when you land, it just hits you that you have completed a skydive. I think we had extra excitement when we landed because we found out that we had reached £1000!”
“We would both definitely do this again because it just feels so surreal, and I cannot recommend this enough to everyone!”
